WELLFLEET, MA — Turco Golf has completed its construction work at Chequessett Club, where the nine-hole golf course is being reconstructed in preparation for increased tidal flow associated with the Herring River restoration. Turco’s crews have demobilized from the site, while construction at the club continues.
Working for Chequessett Yacht & Country Club to plans developed by Howard Maurer Golf Course Design, LLC, Turco’s scope included raising the low-lying portions of holes 1, 6, 7, 8 and 9 and rebuilding golf features on the elevated ground.
The work began with erosion control, site clearing and tree removal, followed by earthwork using fill from an on-site borrow pit. Fine grading and feature shaping established the ground for new greens, tees and bunkers, with drainage included in the reconstruction.
Pond construction was a major component of the job. A new irrigation pond behind the maintenance facility, adjacent to the second fairway, formed part of the irrigation work, which also included a new irrigation system, pump station and pump house.
The construction scope also included cart paths and three timber bridges. Seeding and sodding followed the earthwork and shaping.
National Lawn Sprinklers performed the irrigation work, Speakman Excavating performed earthwork, and Peter J Govoni Landservices handled land clearing and tree removal. York Bridge Concepts built the timber bridges.
Completion of Turco’s work marks the end of the company’s on-site construction assignment, not completion or reopening of the overall club project.
